Carton Coding Standard Operating Procedure- SOP

Improve Productivity, Print Quality with Standard Operating Procedures

Standard Operating Procedures, which are step-by-step instructions, act as guidelines for how to use and maintain your coders for best Print Quality.

Case Printing Solutions is an expert when it comes to industrial inkjet applications. While packaging is our focus, we work with all types of print operations from packagers to cabinet shops to steel stud manufacturers and more. Most notably, we solve problems related to training, equipment maintenance, ink supplies, and documenting the how-to’s … all of which mitigate the cost of labor turnover for the customer.

Employee Productivity, lower costs

A recent CAP study shows on average a 16% cost of retraining when a production employee comes on board. For someone earning $30,000 year that’s nearly $5,000 in training costs.

In the example below, Case Printing Solutions helped a customer train its employees on how to ensure best print quality.  We created Standard Operating Procedures, which are step-by-step instructions that act as guidelines for employee work processes.

Improving Print Quality with Spacing, Cleaning and Maintenance

Upon noticing a sudden degradation of print quality, the first thing to check is the print distance.  If the coder is too far from the substrate then the print quality will suffer.

Dust from corrugate, paperboard or the product itself can also contribute to poor print quality. Properly cleaning the printhead can make all the difference.

For porous surfaces using aqueous inks, try a small amount of deionized water and a lint-free cloth to the clean the nozzles of the printhead.

For non-porous surfaces requiring solvent inks, still use the lint free cloth but NO deionized water is necessary.  Hold the cloth against the printhead for 5 seconds before wiping.

When all else fails, you may need to replace the cartridge and printhead. Be sure to affix the plastic clip to the cartridge before sending it back to the company where the ink was purchased.
